There is an assumption that figuring out who you are, sexually or otherwise, is something that happens in your twenties and then you’re done. Plenty of people I work with are finding out that isn’t true at forty, fifty, sixty. The timeline was never the rule, it was just the story we were told.

Visibility Isn’t the Same as Safety

Wellington makes some of this easier, there is real visibility here, real community, genuine openness in a lot of spaces. But visibility out in the world doesn’t always translate to safety in your own head, especially if you’ve spent decades building a life, a marriage, a sense of self around a different assumption.

You do not need someone else’s permission to want what you want. You just need somewhere honest to start.

A Note From Sabrina Barbara

This piece, and this work, is for the person sitting with a question they can’t quite say out loud yet, not to a partner, not to a friend, maybe not even fully to themselves. It doesn’t rush anyone toward an answer. It just makes the space safe enough to ask the question at all.

If this is you, EFT Sex Therapy is a room built for exactly this kind of unhurried, unpressured honesty.
